  • 6 Tips for Maximizing Your Website

Posted on August 23rd, 2010 marcylarson No comments

    1) Think about your audience(s!) – You probably have 2 audiences, your current members and those interested in your club, team or tournament.  Make sure information is available for both groups and organized in a way that supports both of their needs.

    2) Organize your information in shorts bursts – Avoid long home pages with lots of info.  Viewers should see what they need or the links to what they need without having to scroll.  It’s okay if info is 1 click away as long as they know where to go.  Don’t send visitors on a treasure hunt.

    3) Graphics matter - Try to limit the number of people who update your main site. The more you can maintain original formatting, the cleaner your site will stay. Of course you will have individual people responsible for teams, or specific sections, but try and limit access to the core of your site…and the administrator should check in on their formatting fairly often!

    4)  Link your site to as many places as you can - If you are using Twitter or Facebook, be certain visitors can “like” your page or see your feed. If you have sponsors, make sure their logos are linked and click through to their websites. Connect, Connect, Connect…It will help you with Google Search.

    5) Keep your site vibrant - Yes, there is info that will always be there.  Your mission statement, some info about the program, your contact information.  But make an effort to frequently update your news.  Constantly changing information gives people a reason to interact with your organization and keep coming back to your site.

    6) Check your site analytics - Whether you use Google Analytics or another tool, it is important to look at visitor counts, time on the site, the pages people are viewing and more.  It is extremely helpful to understand how your site is working for you, and what changes you may want to make in the future.  We suggest 1x per month compared back to prior year and prior month.
