Street Soccer USA – Doing Good Through Sport!
Posted on May 26th, 2010 No commentsStreet Soccer USA is a Sport for Social Change organization that runs soccer programs for homeless men and women in 18 cities across the country. Each player, with the help of coaches and volunteers, sets goals to change their lives by setting three, six, and twelve month goals. Athletes are held accountable to meet or even exceed their vision for a better self. This program has been extremely successful with Homelessness Research showing that 75 percent of players involved in the program for a year move off the street and into housing and jobs. Since its founding in 2004, Street Soccer USA has reached more than 20 percent of the chronically homeless in its service areas, ultimately placing 410 people in jobs and housing.
Each year the teams convene in Washington, DC for the annual Street Soccer USA Cup, the premier Sport For Social Change event in the country. Street Soccer USA’s 4v4 soccer game is played on a pitch the size of tennis court, and games are two halves of seven minutes in length. The event takes place over a 3 day weekend (July 30- August 1) in center city Washington, DC at the home of world team tennis franchise the Washington Kastles.
Come check out the action, cheer for your city team and enjoy fast paced street soccer matches with inspiring acts of sportsmanship and fair play in this one of a kind event.
